We Survived!

We survived the 2009 Presidential Inauguration.

My sincerest apologies for the lack of blog post. The days were long, and left little time to post.

However, we have wonderful stories to share. We shared many laughs, some tears (story later), and witnessed history.

The students were perfect! We could not have asked for a better group of students.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will have guest blog post from the students.

Again, we apolgize for the lack of blog post.

Day 1 Photos

It has been a lot harder to blog than I had expected. Please forgive the tardiness of this post.

We are having a blast!

Excitement is in the Air! Amanda Key

Everyone woke with excitement and energy for our first day in D.C. After picking up the other Traveling Hornets from the airport we were off for Ella’s Pizza, which was a pizzeria nominated by Frommers. Quick meal--for we had many sights to take in.

WWII Memorial
Reflection Pool
Lincoln Memorial
Korean Memorial
Washington Monument
Vietnam Memorial

We thought we had prepared for the cold. Thermals, thick socks, furry boots, ear muffs, thick jackets and hand warmers--were not enough!

Today while viewing the Lincoln Memorial we were able to see/hear practice for tomorrow nights concert. It is hard to believe the area that was pretty void of visitors today will be filled with millions on Tuesday.

Time for dinner. We traveled to Hanover, Maryland to Medieval Times. The students loved it! Definitely two thumbs up!

A quick stop by Wal-Mart to pick up the necessary snack food and dvd player, basketball hoop, and board games?

First Flight, Megan

well....
This was my first experince with flying and I was completely scared out of my mind... Especially after hearing about the plane landing in the water!!!

I could hardly breathe my heart was pounding sooo bad throughout the entire security check and boarding. To top things off the metal detector went off when I walked through it!!

It took an hour for the plane to get to its starting point to take off and I held Anna's and Birthe's hand the entire time...

Everyone told me that the take off was the same as a roller coaster ride....Well I do not ride roller coasters... I'm afraid of them.. so that did not help.
It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be... I just felt like I had no insides for like 30 seconds....

The landing wasn't that bad, the only thing that freaked me out about it was I was looking out the window and it seemed like we were sooooo high up. The next thing I knew we were on the ground..

Everyone told me that the take off and landing was the worst part, I wasn't too afraid of that it was just the thought of crashing that really scared me..

Sooo...needless to say the flight wasn't that bad, but I do not think I'm about to make a habit out of flying anytime soon...
