Hornets Buzz into The Big Apple

HARDIN, Texas - On the morning of Saturday, January 16th, thirty eight students from Hardin High School will depart George Bush Intercontinental airport bound for New York City. Accompanied by seven Hardin I.S.D. faculty members, students will spend five days in the city and will have the opportunity to tour many of New York’s world famous land marks including such city staples as The Statue of Liberty, Central Park, and the Empire State Building. In addition, students will have free time to experience both the city’s extravagant shopping districts, and distinct cultural experience by taking in a Broadway show.

Students were responsible for funding this excursion on their own, and accomplished this task through a variety of fundraising activities. In some cases, students were able to secure donations from generous area citizens to help make this adventure a reality. This trip has been a year in planning, and all participants, students and chaperons alike, have dedicated tremendous amounts of their personal time to make this learning experience come to fruition.

During this same time in 2009, Hardin Hornets were able to travel to Washington D.C. to attend the Inauguration of President Obama. Many of the students that were able to attend that trip have decided to participate this year as well. The Traveling Hornets would like to thank the good citizens of Liberty County, friends and family for making this program a success.
